Papuan Nightjar

Eurostopodus papuensis

The Papuan nightjar or Papuan eared-nightjar is a species of nightjar in the family of Caprimulgidae. It is found in New Guinea and some surrounding islands. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests and subtropical or tropical mangrove forests. It is widespread, occurring across 1,210,000 km2, however its population is decreasing. Exact numbers are uncertain due to lack of data, but there is believed to be under 10,000 mature individuals. Its diet consists mainly of insects.
